Year 7 Christmas Carol Review
By Isabella M, Year 7
On the 27th of November year 7 had an opportunity to watch the play ‘A Christmas Carol’. It was a wonderful success, and a brilliant performance. All of the Year 7s thought it was a great way to spend the afternoon periods that day. We’d been reading the classic novel by Charles Dickens, so it was an easy plot to understand, and everyone seemed to get the idea of how the story worked.
Most people were amazed by how three people could perform the show so well, and make miraculous changes into the different characters. They did this difficult task by repeating a line of song while some actors changed into other costumes or switched the setting. Of course it’s a lot easier to do a play with more people to help out, but the actors did a tiring, but amazing job of working with so few people.
Interestingly, a lot of the lines in the original book were also used in the play, which many of us recognised, and understood as it was covered in English lessons a lot more. The plot twisted throughout the story a lot more which is what made it so entertaining.
The story was about a man named Scrooge, who was an awful person, but had been shaped that way through life. As the show carried on, Scrooge was visited by three ghosts which were the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. The ghosts showed him all kinds of things, depending on what they represented, and this was all to make sure that his afterlife was better than his former partner, who had suffered greatly. Therefore, they tried to mould him into a different, kinder and more respectful person.
Overall, I think that we all thought the play was amazing, and I would recommend this classic story to others. It was an enjoyable experience, and a fascinating story to watch acted out by others.
