Year 8 Introduced to the World of Steel Pan Music – Music Curriculum Day

Yesterday we were excited to host the second annual Music Curriculum Day for Year 8, bringing students into the vibrant world of steel pan music!

This year’s event featured hands-on workshops run by The Steel Pan Agency, offering students the chance to explore the history, culture, and artistry behind this unique instrument. The day culminated in each of the classes showcasing the students’ newfound skills and their understanding of the steel pan’s global influence.

The same year group enjoyed an introduction to the exciting world of opera with the very first NHEHS Music Curriculum Day while this year’s Year 7 took part in a wonderful Gospel Music day in November.

The Music Curriculum Day initiative continues to provide authentic and immersive experiences that introduce our students to a wide range of world music. Through these workshops, we aim to spark curiosity and deepen students’ appreciation for diverse musical traditions. The event was a great success, with Year 8 students not only learning about the origins of steel pan music but also engaging with new, exciting repertoire. We look forward to continuing to offer these enriching opportunities for our students in the years ahead.
