14 School Records Smashed – Sports Day 2023

On 28th June we held our annual NHEHS Sports Day at Perivale Track. Despite being greeted by very grey skies first thing in the morning, the track soon turned a very colourful red, yellow, green and blue as students from Year 7-10 and Year 12 adopted the House colours of Hepburn, Eliot, Nightingale and Sharman for the day. With six track and six field events for each year group, plus year group relays, not to mention highly competitive staff v Year 12 relays and tug of wars, there was plenty of opportunity to get into the house spirit as athletes competed for the House Sports Cup!

On the day an impressive 14 school records were broken or equalled on the day, beating 2022’s tally of 10.

In Year 7, Sofia B achieved the year group record in both the 800m and 1500m while Cosima L D equalled the high jump record. There were no records broken in Year 8 but in Year 9, Minna W took the hurdles record and equalled the high jump record.

In Year 10, Hannah P scooped the 200m record and Georgia C the javelin record. Natasha B and Morven P took two records each, with Natasha winning the 300m and 800m and Morven the hurdles and high jump.

In Year 12 Sephera F achieved records in the discus as well as equalling the high jump record while Gen P took the Year 12 shot record.

There was a very competitive tug of war between Year 12 and the staff, with the Sixth Formers taking an easy win and to wrap up proceedings, the Sixth Formers did the double over the staff by winning the 4 x 100m relay, despite great efforts on the final legs by Mr Livings and Mr Cryer for the staff A and B teams!

As well as awarding the House Sports Cup at the final assembly on Friday, we will also be presenting the Jessica-Ennis Hill Individual Cup. Pupils compete in three events (mixed track and field) to qualify for the individual cup and gain points from their positions in their individual events which are added together. Extra points are added for breaking school records.  All will be revealed on Friday!
