Students Celebrate Excellent A Level Results
Our A Level students celebrated excellent results today, with 26% of entries at A*, 66% of entries graded A* or A, and 90% A* to B.
Despite national press coverage of the squeeze on university places, over 80% of the cohort achieved their first choice offer, and over 90% first or second choice. We are delighted that students are heading off to study a wide and ambitious range of courses. Our students are going on to study a rich variety of subjects next year. These include Material Science at Oxford, Medicine at UCL, Law at Leeds, Engineering Design at Bristol and Linguistics at Manchester. This year we have seen an increase in applications to leading international universities, including students heading off to study Psychology at McGill in Canada, Engineering at Cornell, New York and English at Trinity College, Dublin.
Commenting on this year’s outcomes, Mr Shoults said, “These results are testament to the industry and energy shown by our students, and the enthusiasm and support from their teachers. In the face of much negative rhetoric about the challenges facing this cohort because of the Covid period, they have been undaunted in their ambitions. It is inspiring to see the wide range and destinations of courses they will be pursuing in the years ahead.”
Head Girl, Charlotte P, who will be heading to University of Bristol to read Engineering Design with study in industry said: “I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received from NHEHS. All the teachers have believed in me, given me support and extra sessions, and helped me grow in confidence to get this result today. I am relieved to have got into my first choice of university and excited about the next phase of my education. The school helped me find the course – it’s tailored for me and absolutely perfect. I’ll be sad to leave NHEHS though – it’s a lovely supportive community and I’ll keep in touch with classmates and teachers. I’m looking forward to coming back to visit the school in September as an alumna for the OGA Tea Party and 150th anniversary celebrations.”
Head of Sixth Form, Dr Pearce said,”I am incredibly proud of all the girls, proud of their positive attitude and the hard work they demonstrated over the last two years, culminating in their successes today. These young people have shown they will rise to any challenge and make change happen for the better. I am proud to have spent the time with them.”
A huge congratulations to everyone – we can’t wait to hear where your super talents and hard work will take you next!
