In the Careers Spotlight – Alumna Connie Goring-Morris
A huge thank you to Connie Goring-Morris (Class of 2012) who came back to NHEHS this week as part of our Careers Spotlight series to talk to the Sixth Form all about her exciting and varied career in Marketing.
Connie started her career working for the restaurant chain Carluccio’s in their Marketing Department before moving to Wagamama’s and now Cote restaurants. Having studied Art History at university she didn’t envisage that a career in Marketing would be her destiny but, on graduating, a two-week period of work experience at Carluccio’s (via a family friend!) turned into five years and she hasn’t looked back! She has faced a couple of bumps in the road during the course of her career, one of which was when she was made redundant from Wagamama’s in 2020 at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Having been initially very disappointed as she has only recently started the job and was really enjoying working for such a forward-thinking, brave and ambitious brand, she quickly saw an opportunity to pivot and diversify her skills by volunteering at Water Unite, a non-profit investment fund aiming to raise money for water and sanitation as well as plastic waste management. She now works for Cote restaurants where she amused the students by admitting to her excitement over the implementation of new plates, cutlery and menu designs across the brand! She also divided opinion when she shared that she had created a new cocktail for Cote – made from asparagus!
Connie imparted invaluable advice to the Sixth Form based on her experience since leaving NHEHS. Things often don’t go according to plan and that’s fine! It’s important to be agile and flexible and to be willing to try different things: ask questions, go for a coffee and a chat with someone whose career you find interesting as who knows where a simple conversation could lead?
