Good Luck to Our Fabulous Year 11s!
Last Thursday our Year 11s celebrated their last day at school before the start of their GCSE study leave.
After the traditional signing/hand printing of their school shirts, Year 11 were joined for afternoon tea by staff and many of their parents where we shared memories and moments from their five years at senior school.
Before the tea we heard from Mr Shoults and Miss Cagnino, Head of Year for this group of students for the past three years. As well as wishing the year group good luck, Miss Cagnino shared a lovely analogy about a plant by songwriter Victoria Monét, recently crowned winner of several Grammy awards. The songwriter’s long held ambition was to be recognised as an artist in her own right, something which she had been striving to achieve for 15 years. In her award acceptance speech, she described this as time spent chipping away at her goal as a seedling underground, trying her best in a nourishing safe environment that gave her the space to spread her roots and soak up all the goodness around her. Miss Cagnino likened this to life at school for the Year 11s and spoke of how she hoped they would always feel that school is a place where they can feel challenged, but also cared for and supported. It is also a place where they have been able to forge relationships with their friends and “learn to soak all the information you can out of your teachers so that when you emerge from the soil and gorgeous little saplings on days like today you are able to feel really proud of the hard work you’ve done to get here.”
Miss Cagnino wished everyone the best of luck with the exams ahead and reminded them that all our staff will still be here to support them through the coming weeks, telling them to “remember to be a plant! They were made to grow and so are you!”
We look forward to seeing our Year 11s for the end of year trip to Thorpe Park in July. Good luck over the coming weeks!
