"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Alumnae Emily & Ella Share Experiences with Year 10 for Enrichment Week

Huge thanks to alumnae, Emily Bolton (Class of 2012) and Ella Campbell (2020) who came back to school this week to present to the Year 10s as part of Enrichment Week.

Emily works for Cambridgeshire County Council as a Climate Crisis Strategy Manager, having studied Natural Sciences and Applied Ecology and Conservation at University. She gave the Year 10s invaluable advice about how she has ended up in a role she loves by getting a ‘foot in the door’ at the Council and working in a number of different positions which has led to where she is now. She highlighted several exciting projects that she’s involved with as part of her role. These include the roll out of 8,000 EV charging points in the Borough of Cambridge by 2030, the installation of a brand-new solar farm and a large scale tree planting programme. Emily left the girls with a lot of food for thought- the market in sustainability is vast and continually growing, you don’t have to have a specific job in mind when you leave school, follow your passion and local government is more exciting than you first think!

Ella followed on from Emily’s presentation by giving a wonderful insight into university life at Cambridge where she has just completed her degree in Classics. She explained to the Year 10s that the reason she wanted to study Classics at Cambridge specifically was because the degree course they offered enabled her to also combine History of Art and Archaeology, two of her other passions. During her time at university Ella went on some wonderful archaeological digs in Greece and Italy, for weeks at a time, really bringing the subject to life. Now that she has finished university, she made us all very jealous by telling us that is off to Amsterdam for three months to study Dutch Art! Year 10 had lots of interesting questions to ask Ella at the end of her presentation relating to the application and interview process for Cambridge University as well as the requirements for studying a Classics degree.

Thank you Emily and Ella for coming to talk to us!
