Amazing Women Inspire NHEHS Juniors – Book Week and International Women’s Day
This week we’ve been marking both Book Week and International Women’s Day at Junior School!
Today we were visited by award-winning author and journalist Patrice Lawrence who led a KS2 assembly and two workshops for Year 2. Year 4 and 5 were lucky enough to enjoy a talk and Q&A with Patrice.
Meanwhile Year 6 took part in a Women in Tech Workshop run by Agness Mathew & Sarah Reed, project managers at MI-GSO | PCUBED. They spoke about the importance of women in tech, busting myths about stereotypes and the different sorts of discrimination we might come across in life and work. Agness and Sarah also talked about AI, while the girls had fun making their own emojis using AI.
At the beginning of the week author Anna James inspired our own authors by sharing her passion for storytelling with Year 3, 5 and 6, encouraging them to craft their own stories.
Year 4 also had the amazing opportunity to talk via Zoom to inspirational mountaineer Adriana Brownlee is on track to be the youngest female mountaineer to have summited the 14 highest peaks in the world. She talked about how climbing Mount Everest had been her dream since she was 9 years old, and Adriana spoke to us from Nepal where she is training for the final part of her challenge.
This term students across our school have been thinking about Women in Science and Smashing Stereotypes. We have been enjoying this BBC playlist on Amazing Women in STEM which celebrates women who have made great breakthroughs in science, technology, engineering or maths: https://www.bbc.co.uk/ideas/videos/the-former-child-genius-reshaping-the-world-of-tec/p0h60113
Thank you to all for inspiring us!
