Back & Bigger & Busier than Ever – the NHEHS Extra Curricular Fair
Having been virtual for the whole of last year, the Extra Curricular Fair was back last week – and bigger than ever!
Clubs take place before school, at lunchtime and after school and are both staff- and Sixth Form-led. At the Fair the Sixth Form Subject Reps were busy encouraging students to sign up for activities they already enjoy, but also to try something new – who knows where it could lead?
With over 130 activities on offer, the biggest question was “Where do I start?” See here for a selection of activities.
Our Sports Reps championed their 45+ clubs, which ranged from team sports including Netball, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Waterpolo, Badminton, Dance) to individual sports such as Trampolining, Indoor Rowing, Fencing, Kickboxing, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Yoga and Swimming. Any visitors to the Sports Clubs area also got the chance to enjoy the PE staff’s juggling skills too!
In music alone, the choice of 25 clubs or groups included a wide range of styles and groups including Acapella, Piano Trios, Choirs (Chamber, Lower School Chamber), Orchestras (Session, Symphony, Chamber), Conducting Club, Film Music Ensemble, Jazz Band, Rock Bands, Bassoon Quartet, Flute Ensemble, Grade 8 Aural and the intriguingly named Addams Family Band!
Drama offered opportunities for girls from all ages to get involved both on stage and backstage through our Backstage Pass Levels 1-3, Drama Club, LAMDA and also rehearsals for school productions too.
Brand new clubs this year at the Fair were Space Design, Polyglot, L’Italiano Vien Cantando, Asia Debate, Gardening, Practical Art & Craft, From Pen to Paper, Chinese Dance, French Poetry & Calligraphy, Bucket List Book and Sci Fi.
Perennial NHEHS favourites were also prominent at the fair, including Amnesty International, Debating, History of Art, Geog Soc, Dissections, Coup Club, Art, Horrible Histories, Hans Woyda, First Aid, Tycoon, Economics, Ealing Teen Read, Astrophysics, Sapere Aude, German Soc, Pi Club, Python Coding, Bridge, Informatics Olympiad, Design Technology, Classics Masterclass, Medsoc and much more!
Mr Henderson, Assistant Head – Co-Curricular, said of the Fair – “It was amazing to see and – quite literally – feel the buzz in the main hall! The range of activities is testament to the power what we are able to offer, and the way it resonates so well with the girls. I heard one of our students describe the new Key Stage Three Streams as “a chance to do all my favourite subjects!” which sounds like a great opportunity to me!
Looking forward to another exciting, action-packed term of activities!
