"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

End of Term Charities Update – March 2023

Last week we held our first ever Mencap Easter Fair, which followed the success of our annual Christmas event for Mencap. Year 11 students organised a lovely afternoon for the Mencap clients, including a very popular Easter biscuit decorating activity, colouring and all kinds of arts and crafts: animals made from paper plates and flowers using straws!

The previous week we celebrated Sports Relief with our very own Rowathon in the atrium. Students were invited to challenge a teacher in a race in exchange for a small donation to the charity.  We were delighted to have collectively covered an amazing 118 km and raised £120 for Comic Relief! A big thanks to everyone who took part! You can watch our Sixth Formers’ fun film here.

Year 8 held their final charity events this week for The Store Cupboard in Hanwell, with a breaktime bake sale. They have already hosted a charity Pyjama Party in the Recital Hall, with all students invited to wear pyjamas in the lunch break while watching a film and enjoying popcorn and hot chocolate as well as and an Easter themed fair and a teachers v students dodgeball event.

We have been working hard towards our Fairtrade Award this year, with our latest event last Friday which included a student talk about the importance of Fairtrade, a Fairtrade Quiz and a very popular Fairtrade chocolate tasting.

Charity Reps Abbi, Rithi and Harinee started their Summer Babies Birthday Bonanza earlier this month, where students give a donation to them to go and surprise a friend on their birthday with singing and dancing! They are looking forward to creating more surprises next term!

Well done to the Year 11 enrichment group who made Kaleidoscopes with the children at North Ealing Primary School during science week – this proved very popular with both teachers and pupils!

Looking ahead to next term, we are hoping to organise a craft and games afternoon for child refugees at their hostel through Care 4 Calais.

The first half of the summer term will see Year 7 fundraise for their chosen charity, Cancer Research. Amongst the activities lined up are a Sweet Olympics, a Cultural Fair and a Star Wars-themed event for May 4th.

Looking even further ahead, we are delighted to announce that we will be running in the Ealing half marathon to fundraise for The Log Cabin, one of our designated local charities. We have had a parent-staff team running in the event since 2018 which this year takes place on September 24th. We would love to welcome parents of any ability to join us – from first timers to seasoned pros! This year we are going to be joining training sessions in Pitshanger Park with parents and coaches from several other local schools every Wednesday from the end of April all the way up to the event. Look out for a School Comms about signing up shortly.

Finally, we are delighted to share our latest Charities Newsletter produced by our Charity Reps which you can read here.

Thank you for your continued generous support.
