Charities & Volunteering Update January 2024
Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who got involved in our charities fundraising last term – we are delighted to announce that we raised in total over £5,000 for seven charities!
Year 9 Charity Fundraising for Unicef
Looking ahead, the first half of term sees Year 9 take the lead in charity activities as they have a number of fun initiatives lined up to support Unicef, their chosen year group charity. The fundraising kicked off on Wednesday with a popular bake sale – which they are following up with a lunchtime movie and snacks, a teacher vs. students dodgeball and a Valentines/Galentines chocolate delivery service.
Cultural Celebration Week
We will be holding a Cultural Celebration Week led by some of our Reps on the week of January 29th to celebrate our diverse community. Staff and students are invited to share aspects of their cultures by getting creative, baking, cooking and running activities and stalls. We are hoping to create a giant map where everyone can put a pin to show where their family is from. On Tuesday we can look forward to the annual Sixth Form/staff pantomime, while on Thursday everyone is invited to come into school in an outfit that reflects their culture, faith or identity. Thanks to our wonderful catering team we will also be enjoying themed food all week at lunchtimes. All proceeds will also go to Unicef.
Ealing Wildlife Group
A few years ago our Charity and Eco Reps got involved with re-designing the pond outside the science block. Now our Pond Club members will be fundraising for Ealing Wildlife Group, who recently brought back a group of beavers to Ealing.
Volunteering
Care 4 Calais
Next week a group of volunteers from Year 10 upwards will be visiting the Care 4 Calais hostel in Hayes where they will be running some craft, games and music activities for the children supported by the charity. It will be lovely to see many of the children again who we have met on previous occasions.
Enrichment
Our Year 10 and 11 classes are continuing with their Tuesday afternoon volunteering sessions as part of their enrichment, with singing/crafts at local care homes and helping out in our local parks. One group will also be volunteering at Ealing Riding School for the first time. In March, a group of students will be going to North Ealing Primary School for Science Week to make cardboard kaleidoscopes with Year 3 pupils. Our Year 10s are also hoping to organise an Easter Fair for Mencap’s clients towards the end of term.
Thank you for your continued support.
