Engineering Workshop for Year 6
This term, Year 6 have been learning about engineering. We’ve had a lot of discussions about the many types of engineers that exist, as well as some of the many inventions, products and services that have been created by engineers. Pupils are now looking ahead to designing their own inventions as part of a problem solving task.
On Thursday, they were visited by Elizabeth Segre, an electrical engineer for the National Grid. She talked to them about her route into engineering and why she chose to pursue a career in this field, focusing on the creativity and problem-solving elements of the role, as well as wanting to make a difference in quite a male dominated industry. She explained how electricity is created and supplied to homes and businesses around the UK and reinforced this learning with a game where the girls each played a different part of the process in the supplying of electricity.
