European Parliament Ambassador School Programme Visit to Europe House
By Matilda P-S, Year 12
On Monday 4th December, the members of the European Parliament Ambassador School club visited Europe House in Westminster for an afternoon workshop on the history of the EU.
This covered the developments that have been made over time in Europe, including the UK’s involvement and their departure since Brexit. We participated in many fun learning activities that enabled us to learn many facts in a short period of time and got us directly involved with the learning, making it more interactive and enjoyable. In part of the workshop every student was assigned a country that they would be representing, each with different values and political views. We took onboard the perspective of our respective countries and worked through the diverse viewpoints and opposing national interests that the European Parliament has to face, especially in regards to finding agreement between so many countries and so many representatives. This was one of the challenges our group found when stepping into the shoes of others. We also took part in creating and presenting proposals regarding what each of our prospective political block believed was the biggest issue of recent years.
It was a really fun and enjoyable experience, helping everyone learn new facts by immersing ourselves in the role of the European Parliament and how it helps shape and influence the lives of people living in Europe.
