How To Be A Learning Amazon
This week Miss Hughes, Head of Lower School launched the Learning Amazon Project with Year 8.
Learning Amazons is all about encouraging individual exploration so girls can pick a question – either one of their own or from a list that Miss Hughes has put on Firefly – and have complete freedom to explore this question however they like. Students decide how to answer it, go at their own pace – follow their own leads, use trial and error. They probably won’t know at first what outcome they are looking for, but that is part of the fun of learning and exploring something new!
It is a chance for Year 8s to take on a project outside of their usual lessons and develop their research and presentation sills with finished projects due in at the beginning of March. There will be weekly sessions running every Friday from 1.05-1.35pm.
If you’re looking for inspiration, pictured below are some examples from last year’s Year 8 on how they explored their questions.
The Amazons were believed to have been a nation of all-female warriors in Greek mythology and Classical antiquity. We know our Year 8 minds can be as strong as these Amazon women so we are encouraging our current Year 8s to get involved!
