In the Careers Spotlight – Alumna Helena Rea

A huge thank you to alumna Helena Rea (NHEHS 2005) who came back to school last week as part of our Careers Spotlight series to talk to the Sixth Form about her career in the exciting world of PR.

Helena has over 15 years’ experience in the food, drink and luxury lifestyle industry managing a diverse portfolio of clients including Champagne Perrier-Jouet, Champagne G.H.Mumm, The Champagne Bureau and The Glenturret. Her work representing Michelin-starred restaurants and renowned members’ clubs, has allowed her to build relationships with the best in the business. Her luxury goods and partnership experience includes working with, or representing brands, including Heesen Superyachts, Panerai Watches and Rolls Royce.

Helena gave the students very useful advice about getting their foot in the door of the PR industry and not taking no for an answer! As Careers Reps, Chris V and Lauren W told us, “Helena gave us lots of useful advice on how to get into PR, advising that she prefers to employ a candidate with an English literature degree, rather than a Communications degree, as the most important part of a job in PR is being able to write well about a large variety of topics.” Helena also shared top tips and things she wished she’d known at the start of her career including it is who you know but, equally importantly, it’s about what you know, to keep a brag book and not to be afraid to talk about your achievements, to set your ambitions high and that there is no such thing as a stupid question!
