A school that grows with you.

Our new Junior School

I can’t wait for our new building to open. Community and connection is really important in the Junior School. The new building will have a space at its centre that demonstrates that – where the youngest girls on the ground floor can see up to the top floor and the oldest girls, across into the Science and IT spaces and out into the playground.

That heart of the building will be where we can meet, cross paths with different year groups, and hold gatherings and exhibitions that celebrate the girls’ work.

The building will be characterised by light and space, and have an airiness that embodies what we want for the girls – a childhood and school experience that gives them the space to explore, find their interests and play their part in a connected whole.

Reception spaces

Reception will have direct access to their dedicated outdoor area and the two classrooms will be more closely connected, allowing for the free flowing, continuous provision that supports the play-based learning of that all-important first year of school. As a year group, they will get to know one another and start forging the friendships that will enhance their time in the Junior School.

Key spaces reflect the educational values we prize. We want the girls to have fantastic opportunities to perform, so the new hall will provide raked seating for those events, as well as be a great indoor PE facility.

The science lab will be huge, flowing out to a science garden for an important connection to nature. Next door will be a digital learning space, with intentionally flexible furniture for the kind of creative and collaborative work that IT increasingly facilitates. The library sits at the centre of the school, with a gorgeous window seat for nestling down with a good book.

Sustainability at its heart

The new building has been designed to meet ambitious sustainability goals.  This, too, embodies our school community – the girls are passionate about the environment and, as the adults around them, we want to support that and set a good example. Our eco-council and eco-warriors club will monitor the energy usage in the building. The building features lots of natural materials to create a feeling of warmth and calm, as well as the space for our energetic, adventurous, creative and collaborative girls to grow up in. Outside, there will be a new forest school area to further connect the pupils to nature, and further areas that allow learning to be taken outdoors, with spaces for a class to learn or perform.

It is an immense privilege to see the girls grow over the course of 14 years from playful Reception children into young women ready to take the exciting next step into adulthood. Our new building will enhance that journey and the connections they make along the way, and I can’t wait for that first day when the girls flood in and bring the building to life!

I look forward to welcoming you at one of our Open Days.
