‘Le Cours d’Art’ – Onatti French Play Entertains Year 8 & 9

This term we have been enjoying plays by Onatti Productions, specialists in producing interactive Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) plays, which are performed by native speaking actors.

Following the Onatti Spanish play in January, last week Year 8 and 9 students of French had the opportunity to watch ‘Le Cours d’Art’ performed entirely in French. Here’s what Jaya and Cosi thought of the play.

Jaya: ‘The French play was so entertaining! We were all registered after lunch and then taken to the main hall where the set was ready and waiting. It was roughly 45 minutes long and had only two actors but six roles.  Each student had their own quirky personality that made them funny. The best thing about it was that right at the beginning after introducing all of the characters they called for a volunteer. Daphne in Year 8 was chosen and remained in the play the entire time as another student. It was so funny and really added an extra level of energy. To summarise, the play was about five students and a teacher in an art class. When the teacher left she locked the door and gave the key to one girl. Not knowing that they had the key all the other characters panicked and turned on each other, becoming paranoid in the process. In the end everything was fine, and they were all able to leave the classroom peacefully. The actors were so nice and really friendly it was great that afterwards they stayed for a Q&A. Everyone found it so fun and I really love that the school does this for us.’

Cosi: ‘I really enjoyed this play as it helped me improve on my listening skills and understand full sentences used in a realistic manner. It also helped me with my pronunciation with some words. I really enjoyed the characters in this play as they were funny and creative. The play overall was very well written as it also helped me understand words I didn’t know.  Overall this was a really well done play and I hope to watch it next year!’
