Natasha Devon to Hold Book Launch at NHEHS
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a Book Launch event at NHEHS on Tuesday 5th of July for Natasha Devon’s new book at 4:30pm in the Recital Hall.
As part of this we are inviting our Year 9, 10 and 12 parents to join us for a conversation with Natasha to discuss topical issues within girls’ friendships and mental health.
We asked Year 9 and 10 to complete a survey before half term on friendships and mental health; these themes and results will be addressed in our talk.
Natasha received her MBE in 2015 for services to young people, and later that year was appointed as the government’s Mental Health Champion. Known for being outspoken and unfailingly protective of young people’s wellbeing, she was later removed from this position after she spoke out against the pressures of exams and their effect on mental health.
Natasha visits schools, colleges, universities and events across the world, speaking to young people, delivering talks and undertaking research on mental health, body image, gender and social equality. Natasha comes into to talk to our Year 8,9,10 and Sixth form students on a yearly basis about topics such as:
– Social Media, Phones, Tech & Self-Esteem
– Stress & Anxiety: Helping Myself & Others
– Study Skills: Why Looking After Your Mental Health Makes Your Cleverer
– Body Image, Weight & Health
– How to Support a Friend with their Mental Health
– Identity and Mental Health
Natasha’s first Young Adult novel, Toxic, was written in response to requests from young women to address the difficulties they sometimes encounter in friendships and relationships. Toxic deals with themes such as race, privilege, friendship and sisterhood and will be published in July 2022.
If you would like to attend, please sign up here and if you would like to ask Natasha a question at the event, please fill out the form here.
