"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

NHEHS Musician of the Year 2024

By Miss Goodsell, Director of Music

The NHEHS Musician of the Year is always a thrilling event with the top students across the school competing to be named winners in their category. The Junior Award is for Years 7-9 and the Senior Award, for students in Years 10-13. The evening was a real showcase of the talent at NHEHS and also the diversity of instruments and styles. Lucy Walker, composer, pianist and music educator judged the event and gave comments to each performer at the end of the evening.

Katerina opened the concert with the dynamic ‘Romanian Dances’ by Bartok followed by Kiara really capturing the mood of the ‘Gavotte Humoristique’ by Squire. There were some fantastic vocal performances, from the emotive folk performance of ‘Danny Boy’ sung by Josephine to the emotional musical theatre rendition by Anahita and Matilda’s dynamic operatic aria. In the Senior category, Sophia’s showstopper playing was a fantastique and dynamic end to the concert.

The judge, Lucy, commented on the dynamism and complexity of the performances and how when she made her choices, she wanted to award those who really played their piece with panache, not always awarding the most complex piece, but the ones who really showed their talent and musicality.

A huge well done to all those who took part.
