NHEHS Year 7s’ First Week at School
September 6th 2021 – the first day at NHEHS for all our new Year 7s! And what a busy day it was too!
Our new students were welcomed into the school by Head of Year Miss Holmes, Deputy Head (Academic) Ms Copin and Assistant Head (Co-Curricular) Mr Henderson. Soon they were meeting their form tutors and making new friends, before enjoying their first school lunch.
They were introduced to their Year 12 “Big Sisters” who gave practical help and tips on negotiating the first few weeks at a new school, acting as a friendly face and guide for the younger girls.
Then the Year 7s explored the whole of the senior school as they participated in a fun-filled orienteering challenge involving lots of solving clues all over the school to help them find their way around!
The following Thursday the students took part in the Year 7 Bonding Day to encourage a spirit of togetherness and fun among the year group.
They participated in sessions on Film History, Fight Choreography, Screenwriting, Camera and Editing, before making short films in groups which premiered at the end of the day, with the Oscar for Best Picture. There was a lot of excellent dramatic acting, giggling at re-enacting fight scenes and much frantic editing of the silent films to meet the 3 pm deadline!
On the Friday, the Year 7s all got the chance to sign up for a huge range of clubs at the Extra-Curricular Fair, ranging from special interests to sport to drama to music.
Just before school started, the Year 7s were invited to a pre-season Sports Day. Read Manpreet’s lovely report here.
We are also looking forward to welcoming the Year 7 parents into school for The Parents’ Reception when they will be able to meet tutors, Miss Holmes and our Senior Leadership Team on Thursday 30th October from 6.30pm-8.30pm.
