Normandy Sunsets, Markets, Beaches, Shopping & More for Year 8 French Students!
Our lucky Year 8 French students headed to beautiful Normandy last week for their French language trip.
After a fun ferry crossing of the Channel, they spent the first day of their trip relaxing and bonding. Then we enjoyed a trip to the beach before and after dinner to witness the sunset on the longest day of the year!
On the second day of our Normandy adventures we visited the Bayeux tapestry, Bayeux itself and the American war cemetery in Colleville where students looked for fallen soldiers’ crosses with the same surname as them: potential war hero ancestors! And then we set off for Caen for a bit of shopping & to practise our French!
Mont Saint Michel was our destination on the third day & was certainly a big highlight for everyone. We just had to watch our lunch as the seagulls were trying to steal it! Our French linguists practised their French at the market in Courseulles sur mer as they enjoyed discovering seasonal fruits and regional cheese while shopping for cadeaux and bijouterie. A perfect day was rounded off at the traditional Fête de la musique where we sang, danced & laughed – a wonderful way to spend our last night in Normandy!
On our final day we continued learning about Normandy & its past during the Second World War. In Arromanches, the students visited a very insightful museum learning all about Operation Overlord and the Mulberry Harbours.
Just before we left, our Year 8 French linguists said ‘au revoir’ to Normandy. This kind and jolly bunch all said ‘cheers’ to our trip leader, Mme Spencer, with a lovely cincin with (non-alcoholic) French champagne.
À bientôt!
