OGA Tea Party Celebrates NHEHS’ 150th Birthday with 300+ Guests!
Last Saturday, it was wonderful to welcome over 300 alumnae and former staff back to NHEHS to celebrate the school’s 150th birthday. All afternoon, there was the most wonderful buzz in the hall as former classmates reminisced with each other and caught up with their former teachers over a glass (or two!) of prosecco and a delicious afternoon tea – complete with scones, clotted cream and jam! For some alumnae, it was the first time they had been back to the school since they left over 50 years ago. They were astonished to see how NHEHS had transformed over the years and were in awe of the scale of the new Junior School building! The afternoon also saw the reunion of three of Mr Shoults’ predecessors, former Headteachers; Mrs Jane Fitz, Mrs Susan Whitfield and Ms Lucinda Hunt who all returned to celebrate the school’s big birthday.
A highlight of the tea party was a breathtaking performance by the Madrigal Choir, conducted by Gordon Pullin, former Head of Music at NHEHS. Alumnae of all ages, who had been part of this prestigious choir while at school, sung pieces of music that made everyone feel very nostalgic and filled the room with the most beautiful harmonies. The other highlight was a fun-filled auction, hosted by Mr Pearce, Head of Sixth Form, to raise money for the Alumnae 150th Anniversary Bursary Fund. Alumnae, as well as current staff, donated wonderful auction prizes which included tickets to Disneyland, Pilates lessons, Pasta making classes, a landscape gardening consultation and even a bespoke cryptic crossword designed by Mr Shoults! Everyone bid very generously and almost £3,000 was raised for the Bursary Fund.
A wonderful afternoon was had by all and we look forward to continuing the school’s birthday celebrations throughout the coming year.
