"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Science Week at Junior School

Junior School enjoyed a variety of fun science activities this week to celebrate Science Week!

The week kicked off with a ‘Science is Magic that Works’ workshop run by the Year 12 Science Reps for pupils in Reception to Year 2. The physics experiment was making static electricity with balloons, chemistry was making electricity with lemon batteries, and the biology activity taught about reflexes as girls tried to catch a dropped bookmark.

Later in the week we enjoyed a lively KS2 assembly by Irina from Science Boffins! The assembly got the girls excited ahead of a day of science workshops. They were amazed at some of the experiments which included fire and a balloon, a full bucket of water and smoke!

Years 3 and 4 completed a fun workshop called “Incredible Illusions”, which explored visual effects and light. The girls saw some clever animal camouflage and learned how some animals can see ultraviolet light (and got to try out some amazing refraction glasses so they could appreciate lots of different colours that they don’t normally see). The classes talked about and tried out some optical illusions to learn how sometimes your brain is tricking you as your eyes can’t always tell what you’re looking at.

Years 5 and 6 also enjoyed a workshop called “Great Gases”, which explored the gases around us, both harmless and volatile while also experiencing some pops and bangs. As well as an interpretative dance of solids, liquids and gases, they particularly enjoyed the balloon and rocket experiments, where they got to control the release of pressure!
