"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Senior School Charities Update

By Mrs Johnson, Charities Co-Ordinator

Our NHEHS charities are getting the term off to a flying start with a number of fundraising activities as we try to top last year’s record total of £16,500!

Refugees Toy Collection Appeal

We have all been very moved over the summer by the plight of refugees in the news. We would like to support the 62 children who are being accommodated near Heathrow by putting together toy bags. Two children will be allocated to each senior school form who will then create a toy bag for them. The charity Care4Calais has requested toys & gifts are new, age appropriate & meet the relevant safety standards. Students may wish to contribute one or two items each. Toys, books, school stationary, hair accessories, Lego, dolls would all be well received & a backpack to hold the items would be useful for those children who are starting school in the UK for the first time.

Wear Red or Green Day

On 17 September senior school students will be allowed to wear one red/green (the colours on the Afghan flag) item of clothing/hair accessory alongside their school uniform for a £1 donation.

All money will go to the Ealing branch of Care4Calais who will buy clothing for both adults & children living in local hostels.

The Log Cabin – Ealing Half Marathon Parent-Staff Team

We are also fundraising for our designated local charity, The Log Cabin, a local Northfields-based charity who help children with disabilities and additional needs, through our parent-staff team of runners who are taking on the Ealing Half Marathon on September 26th. The Log Cabin is an invaluable local provision where children and young people with additional needs or disabilities can socialise, grow and have fun alongside their mainstream peers. If you’d like to donate to this fantastic cause, please see our Just Giving page here

We are also looking forward to the Year group charity initiatives which will start with Year 11 who will be raising money for Anti-Slavery International followed by Year 10 this term. All forms are given the chance to vote for a charity for their Year group to fundraise for. Last year, chosen charities included The Felix Project, Women’s Aid, The Rainbow Trust, The Stephen Lawrence Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital, BEAT, Alzheimer’s Society, Safeline and Marie Curie.
