"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Spanish, German and French Penpals for Year 8 & 9 Linguists

This year in Spanish lessons we have continued with our partnership with Colegio Guadalaviar, a girls’ school in Valencia.

Year 8s, after writing to and meeting their pen pals last June, have just written another batch of letters to send over to Spain. Meanwhile, Year 9 students have been making videos of our school, talking about their subjects and the lovely facilities we have at NHEHS. The Spanish department have watched the videos and decided on the winning video – made by Emily, Lily and Katherina – congratulations! Year 9 are particularly excited about hosting students and a teacher from Colegio Guadalaviar in February 2024!

Our Year 8 students  of German were equally as excited to receive their first letter from their pen pal exchange partner from the Helmholtz Gymnasium, Karlsruhe last week. They will be writing back to them shortly and can’t wait to write back and to finally visit them in July!

Our French Year 8 students have all written a letter to potential penpals talking about hobbies and introducing themselves. They also included a game of “would you rather” in French to help to get to know their penpal better.  Their letters left NHEHS last week and once they have arrived at the College Jean Baptiste Say in Paris,  Mme Spencer’s counterpart in France will pair the students up. The French students will write a reply back to our pupils which we are hoping to receive before Christmas.
