Sport: In Focus – Year 12 Juliet on Irish Dancing
The fifth of our PE department’s “In Focus” series featuring our pupils’ sports activities outside NHEHS focuses on Irish dancer Juliet K from Year 12. “In Focus” is also shared on the PE department’s Instagram account and on the Sports Notice Board.
“Hi, my name is Juliet and I participate in Irish Dancing. Irish dancing is a great mixture of sport and art as it requires the discipline and fitness of competitive sport and also there is a large performance element.
I have been competing as a solo and team dancer since I was 7 and I have danced in the UK, Ireland, the US and Canada. Over the years, it has been challenging to balance schoolwork with training and preparing and travelling for competitions in both team and solo dancing. Despite this, I have made many friends and achieved lots of personal targets along the way. In the last few years, my team has won the All Ireland and Great Britain Championships and placed 3rd in the last World Championships in North Carolina. It is an incredible feeling to share these wins with your teammates because you have been through so many hours of hard work together.”
