U10 Netballers Runners Up in Bute House Tournament

By Mrs Vao, Head of Junior PE

Our U10 A Netball team travelled to Hammersmith last week to take part in the Bute House U10 Netball Tournament.

The tournament comprised of ten teams, divided in to two sections. NHEHS were placed in a strong group with Bute House, Ravenscourt Park, Pembridge Hall and The Marist B. The matches were short, 6 minutes each way, which meant teams had to keep possession, while shooters had to be as accurate as possible.

Despite playing against tough opposition, our NHEHS team won three matches and narrowly lost one 3-2 against the hosts Bute House. This put our team in the semi final against Marist A. All the team were excited about making it into the semi final and played with renewed vigour to win 4-0.

NHEHS had earned themselves a well-deserved place in the final against Bute House. All the team played the best netball and on the final hooter it was a draw 3 – 3! They now had to play 2 minutes extra time. Both teams were losing possession and missing goals at crucial times and at the end of the two minutes it was another draw 4 – 4. Once again, they had to play another 2 minutes extra time and a very tense time on the sideline for both coaches and spectators! It was the longest 2 minutes ever with the ball moving from one end of the court to the other. NHEHS gave it their all but by the final whistle Bute House were the winners 6 – 4. It was a tremendous match and, as the host said, “one of the best finals they have seen for years!”

A brilliant result and extremely well done to all the players.
