These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

World Ready Day – Students Find Their Voice, Practise Key Skills & Prepare for the Future

How can working together help build the world we want? World-Ready Day, held on Wednesday 7th June, taught students in Years 7 to 9 the key skills to build and change the world around us through a series of KS3 social education workshops and activities.

Year 7s focused on language used to disagree with one another in a respectful way while maintaining integrity. After investigating the difference between values and opinions and practising active listening, students made polite placards to cement the ideas and went on a protest march around the school.

Year 8s learnt how businesses use kindness to sell products. The psychology and economic departments spoke about the psychology of business and the real-world application of business ideas from sustainable and body-positive community-based campaigns, including Patagonia, Fairtrade, Apple and Ikea. Groups of pupils then developed their own ethical soap company, complete with a logo, packaging, website design and social media posts. They then presented their branding vision to the year.

Year 9s found out how making small changes can change our world in sessions focusing on activism and protest. Presentation skills were taught in the afternoon and students finished by presenting their own activism manifesto with plans to change something they care about.

World-Ready Day Lead Miss Cagnino said, “Initiatives like this give our pupils the space to find their voice, practise key skills and prepare for the future.”
