"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Y13 Big Sisters Reunited with Y8 Little Sisters

By Li An Tan, Head Girl

At Notting Hill, students in the Sixth Form act as Big Sisters to girls in Year 7, providing practical help and advice on negotiating the first few weeks at a new school, acting as a friendly face and guide. Due to Covid, opportunities for last year’s Year 12 Big Sisters to meet up face-to-face with their little sisters in Year 7 were limited. However, on Friday all of the Year 13s reunited with our now Year 8 little sisters to make friendship bracelets with them (with varying levels of success!).

We all collected some colourful bits of yarn and either followed strict instructions from our little sisters on how to perform what felt like a very complicated set of knots and twists, attempted in vain to copy the table next to us, or gave up and did a simple plait. Luckily one of my little sisters was oddly skilled at friendship bracelet making so I actually managed rather well!

Our current Year 12s have already been helping the new Year 7s, having been introduced to each other during the Year 7s’ first week at school. More activities are planned for this term – watch this space!
