Year 5 & 6 Cricketers Win Gold at Lord’s

Last week, a group of ten enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 girls embarked on a journey to Lord’s Cricket Ground with a singular mission: to reclaim the indoor Lady Taverners cricket title they lost in 2023.

Throughout the Spring Term, the team had worked hard during training sessions, ensuring they were fully prepared for the upcoming tournament.

Following a brief introduction to the rules of pairs cricket from the organiser, the competition kicked off. NHEHS participated in six matches structured in a round-robin format. They comfortably won four matches, with their most challenging adversary, Heathfield, nearly causing an upset. However, NHEHS managed to secure the victory with a score of 33-26 runs, ensuring their place in the finals.

In the final showdown against their formidable rivals, Heathfield, NHEHS found themselves fielding first. A couple of early catches of the opposing batter boosted their confidence and settled any nerves. From there, the team exhibited remarkable batting prowess and precision in their bowling, ultimately triumphing over Heathfield with a commanding score of 54-17 runs. Their victory was well-deserved, making them worthy recipients of the gold medals.

With the competition now spanning two weeks, NHEHS must face off against Eaton House, the winner of the previous week’s competition, to determine who will emerge as the ultimate trophy holder. Excitement and anticipation fill the air as NHEHS prepares for this next challenge!
