Year 8 Rise to the 30 Day October Challenge!
At the beginning of October, Head of Year Mrs Duns and the Year 8 Tutor Team set the Year 8 students a 30 Day Challenge!
Consisting of thirty tasks to be completed over the month of October (including half term), Mrs Duns hoped the challenge would encourage the Year 8s to push themselves outside of their comfort zone by learning a new skill, meeting friends, being creative and considering others in the community, to name just a few. She also hoped by taking part, it would spark a new-found enthusiasm in the students and give them something new and exciting to focus on together!
Students were given prompts to build up their ability to reflect on their day with gratitude and celebrate who they are. Each challenge was to be signed off by parents or teachers and everyone was encouraged to take photos and create a photo collage. There were also prizes and House points up for grabs!
On the return from half term, we shared the collages and form time, with many going on display in the atrium.
We loved the variety of tasks taken on by the students every day, which included:
Learning to say thank you in ten different languages
Taking a photo of an autumn scene in your garden or in a park
Help someone or get involved with a charity for a day
Have a 10,000 step day!
Read a set of traditional nursery rhymes, then write your own (make it funny!) and share with friends and family
Make an autumn leaf door wreath with leaves you find in the park or on the street
Look up someone you admire in science or history. Share your findings with friends and family
Bake a loaf of bread (take a photo so we can share this on our Breadboard!)
Read a newspaper or article that you would not usually read
Bake some autumn cookies
Call a friend and have a chat
Go for an hour’s walk
Have a phone free and offline day!
Share your favourite music with a friend or family
Cook a meal for your family. Why not try a new recipe out?
Mrs Duns and the Year 8 Tutor Team loved seeing and hearing about all the new activities, not to mention taking part in the challenge themselves! Well done to everyone involved!
