"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Year 8s Highlight Plight of Refugees Through Song – Refugee Week 2021

In preparation for Refugee Week (June 8-14th), class 8N have been learning the song, “Never Give Up” which was written by Porchlight service users and performed by detainees at Dover Immigration Removal Centre.

One of the Porchlight group sent the detainees the message of “never give up the fight” and detainees jammed around this theme to come up with the song as they found commonality in their experiences and shared messages of hope with each other. The song was transcribed by John Strange and arranged by Miss Le Brun.

8N performed the song in assembly today to help raise awareness of Refugee Week. They will be performing “Never Give Up” again as part of our Summer Concert on July 5th when we will be opening up a Just Giving page to give the audience an opportunity to support this cause via the charity Hear Me Out. As part of Refugee Week, we are also collecting clothes and trainers for the 300 refugees in the Borough of Ealing, which will be passed on to the charity Coats for Calais who are helping newly arrived refugees in the UK.

We were also thrilled to discover that we were featured on Hear Me Out’s compilation video of all the choirs around the UK singing the song. Look out for us here on YouTube.
