"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Year 9 Alex – Ambassador for the London Youth Games!

We were excited to learn that keen swimmer Alex in Year 9 was selected as an Ambassador for the London Youth Games! The representatives from each London borough will be trying to help shape the London Youth Games and encourage more young people to get involved in sport. Last year the LYG33 helped design the “Virtual Games” which we took part in as a school. The representatives will also get to meet LYG alumni for inspirational talks.

This week Alex got to meet up virtually to find out more about her role.

Here’s what happened:

“I got to meet 4 other new people joining the LYG33 team this year (most of them were aged between 16-20) as well as some of the executives of London Youth Games. They predominantly discussed with us what our role would include. Our main job is to provide feedback on the London Youth Games events and help to implement new aspects; however, we will also be involved with opportunities to meet LYG alumni as well as having talks from Nike representatives. The programme will allow me to train to have a coaching qualification, in addition to working with new people. The first full group meeting will be in January 2022, with monthly meetings commencing after that, with a mix of both virtual and physical events. At some point next year there will also be a ‘group outing’ to help us bond, because there is such a range of different people I will be working with. (Last year the LYG33 went to Go Ape!)”

NHEHS students have competed in the London Youth Games over the past year in a number of sports for their boroughs, including last weekend at the London Youth Games Cross Country at Parliament Hill, where these runners represented Ealing: Jasmine P (Senior), Rosie H (U15), Nicola H (U15), Natasha (U15), Minna (U13) and Sofia (U11).  Eadi SJ (U15) was also selected for Brent.

Earlier this year in the London Youth Games, Yasmin I, Olivia B, Alice W and Guusje V all played in the Ealing Hockey teams, while netballers Jasmine DRR, Georgia C, Morven P, Dana N and Jaspreet G (Ealing) and Julia B (Hounslow) played in the netball competition for their boroughs.

Well done to all our LYG players and runners and good luck to Alex as an Ambassador!
