10 School Records Smashed – Sports Day 2022
Normal NHEHS Sports Day service was resumed last week for the first time since 2019, with a full schedule of track and field events, competitive staff v pupils tug of war and relay, not to mention a large helping of House spirit and no year group bubbles this year, so students of all ages happily mixed together to cheer on their teammates!
Year 12 entertained everyone from the off, leading Mexican waves and motivational songs, all while dressed up (green or yellow all in one body suits or smurf outfit, anyone?) and covered in House coloured face paint. See our Instagram Highlights for more photos and videos.
And of course, there was never a dull moment with Dr Pearce and Miss Cagnino as MCs!
An impressive ten school records were broken on the day despite heavy rain early on.
In Year 7, Meredith J broke the Year 7 200m record, finishing in 29.66 seconds (the previous record held by Rosie H’s 30.01 seconds in 2019).
In Year 8 Lucia F-R broke the Year 8 Shot Put record, throwing 7.86m, beating the previous record of 7.51m held by Gen P in 2019).
Year 9 celebrated five athletes breaking seven school records. Morven P (11.95) and Georgia C (12.62) broke the hurdles record (previously held by Keerit D from 2019). Morven also broke the High Jump record with a clearance of 1.45m, clearing the previous record of 1.43m held by H. Hill-Norton from 2017).
Hannah P smashed the 200m record with 26.59 seconds, which is now a whole school record! The previous Year 9 best was by Rosie H in 2021 with 28.43 seconds.
Natasha B broke the 800m record (2 mins 25 seconds) and the 1500m record (5 mins 21 seconds) – the previous record holders were Rosie H in the 800m (2 mins 35 seconds) from 2021 and Nicola H in the 1500m (5 mins 32 seconds) also in 2021.
Georgia C broke the Javelin record, throwing 24.10, beating the previous record of 23.60 m by Uma S in 2021.
In Year 10, Addy M-S broke the 200m best recording 28.20 seconds, with the previous record of 29.13 held by Maddie H from 2021.
No records were broken in Year 12 this year, but they did claim big wins in both the tug of war and staff v student relay!
As well as awarding the House Sports Cup at the final assembly on Thursday, we will also be presenting the Jessica-Ennis Hill Individual Cup. Pupils compete in three events to qualify for the individual cup and gain points from their positions in their individual events which are added together. Extra points are added for breaking school records.
All will be revealed on Thursday!
