"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Carrot Cake Creativity at NHEHS Bake Off!

Our teachers’ judging panel were treated to an amazing variety of delicious carrot cakes this week at the NHEHS heat for the GDST Bake Off.

The challenge this year was for girls to bake a small carrot cake using a Paul Hollywood recipe (without nuts).  Cakes were to be judged on presentation, technique, taste with a proposed design for the final. The first stage of judging was at form time where tutors tasted each cake and selected a winner from each form. The Senior Leadership Team together with some Heads of Year then judged the form winners at break to decide upon a Senior (Year 10-13) and Junior (Years 7-9) winner.

They were very impressed with the innovative and creative approaches by all the bakers, which made making the final decision a difficult task, but in the end the winners were declared – Imogen (11G) and Katerina (7S).

Well done to all bakers!

Congratulations and good luck to Imogen and Katerina in the final at Sydenham Hign School on December 10th, where they will each bake a carrot cake, followed in Bake Off style by bringing with them a design/style sheet illustrating how they would create a cake in honour of their personal signature bake – celebrating a festival from around the world!
