"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

#CharityChallenge1341KM for The Log Cabin

From Lizard Point to Dunnet Head. 1341KM. Over the course of two full weeks, from the 8th up to the 21st  of June, we will be involved in a school-wide Sports Challenge which will see us cover the distance of one end of the UK to the other, to raise funds for Ealing charity, The Log Cabin.

#CharityChallenge1341KM aims to cover the distance from the most southern point of the UK, Lizard Point in St Ives, to the most northern, Dunnet Head in Thurso, a total distance of 1341 km. We are asking sudents, staff, parents – everyone who wants to get involved –  to run, walk, get on their bikes, skateboards, scooters – however they like to exercise, to cover the 1341 KM distance.

Certificates ranging from Bronze to Platinum will be awarded in the duration of the two week period for completed 5KM distances in individual days (bronze for 5 days up to Platinum for all 14 individual days). In addition, teachers are challenging the students in a separate Teachers v Students competition to see which age group can cover the largest distance over the two weeks.

Commenting, Sophie Nicholas, Director of Sport at NHEHS who has set up the initiative said:

“Lockdown has been a challenging time for so many. In recognition of this, we are setting up this challenge to help in a meaningful way. By encouraging our girls to keep active – even just a little bit of exercise each day makes such a huge difference to positive mental health – and to be doing this with a worthwhile cause front of mind, are important motivators.”

Participants will log their distances in the Active Globe app which will help track the cumulative distance covered. And a donation to Log Cabin will be asked to help raise funds for the charity.

Monique McGoey, Fundraising Manager at The Log Cabin added:

“We are very grateful to the pupils and staff at NHEHS for their continued support of The Log Cabin Charity. This year has been especially hard for us due to Covid-19, as all of our fundraising events have been cancelled—it’s heartwarming to see the school community think of us during this time, so we can continue to support local families through this period”.

Donations to log Cabin can be made through this justgiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nhehs-pe-department.
