Covid-19 Will Not Stop The Music!

All Together Hitting The Virtual Notes

By Zara Talbot, Year 10 Journalist Leader

You may be thinking, how is it possible to enjoy music clubs such as choir over google meet? Well, I am going to explain to you just how we have managed to do it here at NHEHS!

Online choir practice still takes place every week and it is great to have a little sing a long. Singing helps boost our mental health; is a great way of coping positively with the dull lockdown and it also reduces our feelings of self isolation. It is more interesting talking to other people and not just your family members! This allows us to forget about everything and show our love of music through the use of technology. Although we are not physically singing with our choir members, as we are on mute, it feels comforting.

Ms Dunne recorded the piano part for us to sing along to during our own practice time. Last term we sang ‘You Will Be Found’ from the musical ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ which we each separately recorded for Ms Dunne to synchronize the videos together for the virtual concert.  This term we have just started singing ‘Mr Blue Sky’ by ELO. It is a great song to lift our spirits during lockdown!

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imaginable and life to everything” Plato.

Online orchestra is possible too! This is very similar in that you are on mute however are playing your instrument along with the conductor instead of singing. It is good to occupy your time with lots of fun activities which may be similar to what you were doing pre-lockdown or even trying something new.

We are all looking forward to taking part in the first ever NHEHS virtual summer concert on June 30th at 7 pm, where there will be performances from bands, session orchestra, choirs and soloists. Watch out for the link to the event in your email!

I hope this article was interesting and gave you an insight to what virtual extra curricular music clubs are like!
