Mathematicians Win First Match in Hans Woyda Competition
By Dr Stark, Mathematics Teacher
Last week a quartet of mathematicians won their first match in the Hans Woyda Maths Competition, in which sixty-four schools compete from across London to reach the final in the summer.
Each match features a selection of rounds including pairwork, groupwork, mental arithmetic, and of course an exciting race at the end. Each team comprises one member of Year 9, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13, and the squad train weekly to ensure that their Pythagoras, algebra, mental arithmetic and indices are tip-top.
Having won one match already, we need to win one more to go through to the knock-out stages. Our next match will be against Harrow School, and we are looking forward to visiting and pitting our wits against them.
