Musical Talent Showcased at Annual House Music

By Zara B, Music Rep

On Thursday 30th of June, our annual House Music festival took place. Students from Years 7-12 took part in a range of different categories, performing genres such as classical (at all levels), musical theatre, pop and original composition.

With a staggering 34 entries, it was amazing to see such enthusiasm amongst the younger students to get house points and make music with friends. Due to the volume of acts, heats were held in the morning for two of the categories: classical grades 5-7 and pop group. It was really fun to be able to judge this portion of the competition, although it made us feel quite old, as the lower school students really reminded us of our younger selves. Having watched the heats, we had to choose four acts from each category to progress to the final, which proved to be a very difficult decision.

The final, judged by Dr Stark, was a fabulous concert with a great array of musical talent. From a bassoon rendition of Saint-Saens’ “The Swan” by Georgia in Year 9 to an emotional performance of Sondheim’s “Losing My Mind” by Bella in Year 12, it was an extremely enjoyable afternoon.

House Music always has a huge impact on the final house standings, so a huge well done to the winners, runners up and everyone who took part!
