"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Nearly 50 Local Primary School Pupils at Launch of BUDS 2024 Enrichment Programme

Our BUDS 2024 programme got off to an awesome start on Saturday with nearly 50 Year 5 pupils from nine local primary schools attending the first session.

BUDS is our Saturday enrichment programme aimed at Building Understanding, Developing Skills in gifted and talented Year 5s at Christ the Saviour C of E Primary, Selborne Primary, Montpelier, North Ealing Primary, Little Ealing Primary, Green Dragon Primary, Stanhope Primary, Blair Peach Primary and St Vincent’s Primary schools. With a focus on Science, English, Maths and Creative Thinking, pupils will learn the soft skills required to be able to think creatively, solve problems and express their own ideas.

In the first Science session, our Harry Potter Potions lesson showed that Science is magic but real! Potions must be assembled and the physical and or chemical processes taking place be explained by observation and deduction. Others must be disassembled without the use of magic wands. Each step can only be used once (magnetism, vibration, sieving, solubility, filtration and evaporation).

In Public Speaking, we learned how to craft compelling speeches with words and gestures, taking examples from famous speeches, with the pupils aiming to be able to talk about something they are passionate about without looking at their notes.

In Creative Thinking, we started to unravel the essence of creativity, tracing its roots and discovering the power of self-expression, as we unleashed Creativity through the Hero’s Journey.

A big thank you to our fantastic Sixth Formers who helped out on the day, particularly for leading the final part of the session. Here’s what Year 12 Priya thought of the session and why she volunteered.

After such a great start, we’re already looking forward to seeing our BUDS programme students again here at NHEHS for the next session on February 3rd.

Well done, everyone!
