"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

NHEHS Charities & Volunteering Off to a Busy Start

By Mrs Johnson, Charities Co-Ordinator

Our NHEHS charities are getting the term off to a busy start with a number of fundraising activities lined up as we try to top last year’s record total of £17,500!

The Log Cabin – Ealing Half Marathon Parent-Staff Team

For the fourth year in a row, we are fundraising for our designated local charity, The Log Cabin, a local Northfields-based charity who help children with disabilities and additional needs, through our parent-staff team of runners who are taking on the Ealing Half Marathon on September 25th. The Log Cabin is an invaluable local provision where children and young people with additional needs or disabilities can socialise, grow and have fun alongside their mainstream peers. We would also encourage any pupils taking part in the Mini Mile race on the Saturday to help fundraise for The Log Cabin too! If you’d like to donate to this fantastic cause, please see our Just Giving page here

We will also be holding a sport dress up day in support of The Log Cabin on Friday 23rd both at senior and junior schools where pupils can come in wearing sportswear in exchange for a £2 donation to The Log Cabin. All money will be collected during the morning registration or can be added to the Just Giving page.

Volunteering

We are holding our first Year 10 volunteering sessions next week as part of the Year 10 enrichment programme. The volunteering element consists of a number of options including helping out at the Honey & Grape Farm at Horsenden Hill, litter picking, helping the park wardens in Pitshanger Park, eco volunteering, singing to four local care homes’ residents and individual volunteering.

Harvest Collection

On Tuesday 4th October, we will be holding our annual harvest collection of food for the work of the Ealing Foodbank. Prizes will be awarded to the form group who collect the most amount of food and for the best decorated hamper. The following items are needed by Ealing Foodbank: tinned fish & meat, UHT milk, dried milk and non-dairy milk, long life fruit juice and squash, instant coffee and instant drinking chocolate, rice, jam and honey, tinned fruit and vegetables, custard – ready to eat, ketchup and mayonnaise.  We will start collecting donations from Tuesday 27th September; the deadline for food donations is Tuesday 4th October.

Year Group Charities

We are also looking forward to the Year group charity initiatives which will start with the Sixth Form, who will be raising awareness and money for the Meningitis charity Meningitis Now. Several events will be held on 5th October, which is the national Meningitis Awareness Day, as well as additional events held over the year.

Year 11 are next up and will be raising money for the work of The Felix Project through their charity month followed by Year 10 this term. All forms are given the chance to vote for a charity for their Year group to fundraise for. Last year, chosen charities included Anti-Slavery International, Women’s Aid, Ashiana, Beat and Shelter.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
