Royal Institution Brings Science to Life for Local Primary School Pupils
By Dr Raguz, Head of Junior Science
As part of Science Week we welcomed pupils from our local community primary schools (Christ the Saviour C of E, St Gregory’s, Montpelier, Selborne and North Ealing Schools) to a spectacular interactive science show from the Royal Institution. The show was jam-packed with experiments, explosions and hands-on participation by the children.
There were lots of lively, fire-based demonstrations much to the delight of the young audience as Caroline from the Royal Institution delved into the different stores of energy and how they affect our lives.
A big thanks to the Royal Institution for bringing science to life and to our audience for their fantastic participation.
Caroline also gave talks to our Junior School pupils and explored the chemistry of fossil fuels, particularly the production of CO2; the history of our understanding of CO2’s effect on the climate; and the physics and chemistry of storing electricity. The show spectacularly brought the issue of climate change to life, explaining why we need to stop burning things and what we could do instead to fulfil our needs in the future.
