Scribble Bot Tastic at BUDS Session
The third of our BUDS sessions took place last weekend with students from Christ the Saviour C of E Primary School, St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, Montpelier Primary
School, Selborne Primary School and North Ealing Primary School taking part. BUDS is our new Saturday enrichment programme working with primary schools in Ealing. The BUDS programme is aimed at Building Understanding, Developing Skills in Gifted and Talented Year 5 pupils from local primary schools. With a focus on Science, English, Maths and Creative Thinking pupils will learn the
soft skills required to be able to think creatively, solve problems, and express their own ideas.
Under the guidance of our Junior School Head of Science, Dr Raguz, pupils had to use their knowledge of circuits and balanced forces to create a battery-operated bot to make an abstract art picture. Using batteries, marker pens, tape, a cup, crocodile clips, paper and a battery holder, they had to put the bot together, make it stable and ensure it worked by testing out various hypotheses and troubleshooting. Then the bots came up with some fantastically crazy patterns!
The pupils also practised their debating and public speaking skills as well as making great progress on their large mosaics, based on the designs they started working on in the last session. We can’t wait to see the final results!
We are looking forward to seeing our BUDS programme students at school again this Tuesday after school on 15th March for a fun, interactive Science Show here which will be delivered by The Royal Institution.
Look forward to welcoming you all again!
