Showing Our Support for Ukraine
By Mrs Johnson, Charities Co-Ordinator
We are all moved by the unfolding, devastating situation in the Ukraine and many of us would like to provide humanitarian aid for the families and individuals caught in this conflict. Here is what we have been doing so far and how you can help.
Our Year 11 students have shown great initiative in leading the Senior School to raise money for the humanitarian work of UNICEF in Ukraine.
In particular, they will be holding a wear ‘Yellow and Blue day’ on Friday 11th March for a £2 donation.
Students can either give their £2 to their form tutor or donate through the Just Giving page.
During the week of Wednesday 9th March to the morning of Monday 14th March we will also be collecting items which will be distributed on the Polish border where many Ukrainians are now seeking refuge. Students can bring donations to the atrium during the above dates. Only the following items are required:
Blankets
New underwear (Adults and children)
T shirts – preferably ones sold folded in a packet as these are easier to pack
Sleeping bags
Power banks for charging mobile phones
Roll mats/yoga mats
Year 11 will also be running a second-hand book sale on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th March at break and lunchtime. We would like to encourage all students to donate books they have enjoyed reading, but are in a good condition, to raise money for UNICEF. Books can be brought into the atrium on either day.
If you enjoy knitting, we are also encouraging students, staff and parents to knit flowers in the Ukrainian colours which will be sold in school and on Parentpay. You can find the pattern here. Please let me know if you require further information on this or would like to be involved.
Head of Year 8, Mrs Duns, organised a Staff Tea Morning last Friday to help raise money for UNICEF in Ukraine as well as selling our first knitted flowers.
In Junior School last week volunteers from Year 4 co-ordinated a collection for Ukrainian refugees and the items collected will be taken to Poland, near the border with Ukraine where they will be distributed.
Thank you for your ongoing support with the charity and volunteering activities at NHEHS.
