"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

The Challenge of the UK Linguistics Olympiad

The UKLO (United Kingdom Linguistics Olympiad) is a language-analysis competition for all ages. The organisation creates linguistics puzzles and run competitions for school children to encourage a lifelong interest in the world’s languages. Competitors have to solve linguistic data problems by using logical thinking and demonstrating an aptitude for language analysis.

Maia, a student of A Level Spanish, took part in the UKLO. Here’s what she took from her experience:

“Participating in the Linguistic Olympiad has been an absolute delight! From unravelling the language puzzles to collaborating with friends who also enjoy exploring different languages. Every moment was a rewarding experience.

The Olympiad provided a unique platform where I could explore my passion for languages in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. It wasn’t just about competition; it was about the joy of exploration and discovery. Whether it was deciphering cryptic scripts or analysing linguistic patterns, every challenge was an adventure.

Overall, my journey in the Linguistic Olympiad was a unique opportunity, leaving me with a deeper appreciation for the beauty of languages. I hope you will also try it out some day!”

Well done to all our linguists taking part.
