"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Two Piano Trios in Pro Corda Chamber Music Semi Finals

By Miss Goodsell, Director of Music

Two of our piano trios were excited to perform at the Pro Corda Chamber music competition semi finals held at Westminster School last week.

The Pro Corda Festival is the only national festival to promote and celebrate chamber music within schools. It is available to all instrumental ensembles between three and nine players. The competition is held in January, February and March each year and tours schools around the country through qualifying and regional semi-final rounds, culminating in a finals day, this year to be held at Millfield School on March 13th.  Each group receives individual coaching with a skilled adjudicator during every round, so the further they progress through the competition the more coaching and experience they receive. The Final usually has a special guest adjudicator and is a celebratory day of chamber music which allows the students the opportunity to play for, and meet, their peers in other schools from around the country.

Both groups had performed before half term and were delighted to make it through to the second round of the competition. The Year 9 trio of Harriet, Dunya and Zoe performed Beethoven’s ‘Little Trio’ and the Advanced trio of Kikuko, Grace and Jaya performed Fauré’s Piano Trio in D minor.

We currently await the results of the competition.
