Weekly Sports Update September 15th 2023

Following a fantastic pre-season netball and hockey training for our brand new Year 7s, we are all back in the swing of things in the PE Department with trials and fixtures across all sports.

Tennis

Abby G (Year 9) won the Middlesex county Play your Way to Wimbledon Competition and went on to compete at the National Finals which were held on the famous grass courts at the All England Club.

Emily C (Year 7) won the U12 Middlesex County tennis championships and was runner up in the U14 event.

Our U13A team had a amazing 5-1 win at home vs. Godolphin & Latymer on 7th September in the LTA Division 2 semi final to reach the final!

Netball

Our netball season kicked off with two defeats in the Sistersnsport Cup, with the U16A losing 21-31 away to Putney while the U15As lost 29-52 home to St Paul’s Girls School.

GDST Sport

Last week two of our cricketers (Lana and Lilly) together with five of our netballers (Iris, Gen, Bea, Morven, Georgia) trialed for the GDST teams, with Year 13’s Bea and Gen being selected.

Gymnastics

Over the summer, Shobhitha (Year 13) competed in the British Aerobic National Championships and was first in her category – British National Aerobic Champion in her NAC! Read our interview with national champion Shobhitha.

Rugby

Year 12 Bea was part of the England Under 18 Touch Rugby team that were crowned champions at the Atlantic Youth Cup this summer. Bea also captained the South East regional team  in the Under 18 Rugby Nationals in Nottingham in August.

Cricket

NHEHS cricketers Annika, Elizabeth, Lana, Lilly, Manpreet and Nishka were part of Ealing Cricket Club’s U13 team (Middlesex county champions) this summer who won through to the Southern Counties final, beating Essex champions Coggeshall Town CC in the semi-final.  Giuliana, Lilly, Roxana, Manpreet, Lana and Nishka were part of the Ealing Cricket Club U15 team who were crowned runners-up at the MJCA U15 Hardball League this season.

Athletics

Alice and Layla (Year 7) competed for Ealing & Southall Athletics Club, where they ran in the U13 event at the Middlesex Cross Country Relay Championships in Hayes, with their team taking third place. Natasha in Year 11 was part of the Thames Valley Harriers team which won the U17 women’s race at the same event.

Ealing Council Sports Awards 2023

Students Abby, Manpreet, Nishka, Lilly and Jojo were all recognised at these awards for their London Youth Games achievements.

Coming up:

Next week sees our netball teams take part in the annual Ibstock netball tournaments plus our hockey players will take part in the GDST hockey competition on September 21st.  Our Year 8 and 9 netball A teams are also headed to Condover Hall in Shropshire for the annual GSA tournament over the weekend of September 22-24th.
