"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

An Amazing First Week for Year 7!

Our Year 7s have been enjoying a busy and exciting start to their lives at NHEHS!

Before the beginning of term, the Year 7s were invited to take part in a Pre-Season Sports Day at Trailfinders so they could meet their new classmates, make new friends have fun and get to play netball and hockey. There were over 40+ keen hockey players at the morning hockey session which focused on drills and game play. After lunch we were joined by nearly 80 netballers for an amazing afternoon session!

On Wednesday 6th September, the Year 7s were welcomed into NHEHS by the Head Girl Team, Year 7 form tutors and Madame Spencer, Head of Year 7. They were introduced to their Year 12 “Big Sisters,” who were on hand to give helpful tips and advice on the first few weeks at school before enjoying their first lunch at NHEHS.

To help the Year 7s get to know their way around school, the teachers had put together a fun Scavenger Hunt where the students explored (and got lost) in the whole of the senior school site as they tried to solve the clues to the hunt.

The following week it was great to see the sporting enthusiasm shown the previous week at the pre-season training continued through to the team sports trials, with around 50 trying out for the A-F netball teams, over 30 for swimming and hockey and 25 for waterpolo too!

On Friday, armed and ready with their chrome books, the year group were able to sign up for a vast range of clubs (over 140) at our Co-Curricular Club Fair, with clubs ranging from Backstage Pass, E-sports, F-1, Glider Club, Art, Politics, Engineering, Debating, Languages, Dissecting, Drama, Book and Film Clubs not to mention Music (choirs, orchestras, bands, ensembles) or Sport (football, swimming, dance, water polo, cricket, netball, hockey, running, badminton, strength & conditioning and more!).

The whole year group then travelled to Operation Encounter in Oxfordshire for a Bonding Day to help them get to know each other and make new friends. They took part in one water-based activity (canoeing) and a ropes-based activity (crate stack), followed by a whole-year group challenge. The weather was glorious and it was a fruitful day full of friendships and fun challenges.

We were delighted to welcome our Year 7 parents into school for our Year 7 Parents’ Reception earlier this week where they were able to meet tutors, Madame Spencer and our Senior Leadership Team.

Coming up in October, our Year 7 musicians will be taking to the stage in our New Girls Concert on 5th October.

With a hugely enjoyable first couple of weeks, what have been the best things for our Year 7s? Watch what our Year 7s thought on our Instagram.
