"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Year 7’s First Week at NHEHS!

Our Year 7s have had a busy and exciting start to their life at NHEHS!

Before school started the Year 7s were invited to take part in a Pre-Season Sports Day at Trailfinders so they could get to play netball and hockey, have fun and get to make some new friends among their new classmates. 40+ budding hockey players came to the morning hockey session which included drills and game play. After lunch nearly 80 netballers joined in for a fantastic afternoon session, resulting in lots of tired but happy faces and lots of swapped phone numbers!

The enthusiasm for sport continued the following week at school with 70 trialing for the A-F netball teams, 30+ for hockey and 42 taking up the waterpolo taster session too.

On their first day at school, the Year 7s were welcomed by Miss Holmes (Head of Year 7) and their form tutors.

They were introduced to their Year 12 “Big Sisters” who gave practical help and tips on negotiating the first few weeks at a new school, acting as a friendly face and guide for the younger girls.

Then it was time for the legendary NHEHS Scavenger Hunt!

The Year 7s got to explore (and get lost in) the whole of the senior school as they participated in a fun-filled orienteering challenge involving lots of solving clues all over the school to help them find their way around!

On Monday, armed and ready with their chromebooks, the year group got the chance to sign up for a huge range of clubs at our Co-Curricular Club Fair, with clubs ranging from Backstage Pass, E-sports, Horrible Histories, Debating, Languages, Dissecting, Drama, Book and Film Clubs not to mention Music (choirs, orchestras, bands, ensembles) or Sport (football, swimming, dance, water polo, cricket, netball, hockey, running, badminton, strength & conditioning and more!).

On Friday 16th September the year group are headed to Operation Encounter in Oxfordshire for their Year 7 Bonding Day to help them get to know each other and make new friends. They will be  taking part in one water-based activity (raft building or canoeing) and one ropes-based activity (Jacob’s Ladder or crate stack), followed by a whole-year group challenge.

Our Year 7 musicians will be taking to the stage in our New Girls Concert on 6th October and we are also looking forward to welcoming the Year 7 parents into school for our Parents’ Reception when they will be able to meet tutors, Miss Holmes and our Senior Leadership Team on 29th September.

The Year 7s hugely enjoyed their first week but were unable to decide which was the best part (although food featured highly)!
