50+ Remote Extracurricular Clubs & Activities Launch Today
Our staff and sixth form subject reps have certainly risen to Mr Cheney’s challenge of putting together a fantastic range of extracurricular clubs for this summer term, with over 50 activities on offer for the Senior School girls so far.
The remote extracurricular clubs take place before and after school, as well as at lunchtime and start this week.
Girls will be able to get the mornings off to an energetic start with several before school sports activities including HITT Training and Morning Body Blast.
Team sport players will be able to get ahead for the autumn hockey and netball seasons with special pre-season training, while there are opportunities to get involved in cricket, rounders, badminton, tennis and dance squad activities too. The PE department also included a number of non-physical extracurricular activities such as an elite Q&A, a sports quiz club and sports psychology lecture series. There is also the intriguingly-named ‘Go Outdoors Club’ run by Miss Nicholas too!
Our international and language clubs will happily be continuing this term in virtual mode with Linguistics, German Soc, Korean, Chinese Current Affairs and Amnesty clubs all on offer.
For art and design technology, clubs include Mindful Drawing and Painting, Art History Gallery Quiz and DT Challenge. The ever popular Bridge and Coup Clubs will continue to encourage girls’ competitivity using virtual versions of the games, while the maths department look forward to welcoming more girls to Enigma Club, in addition to their Maths Breakfast Club. Masterclasses in both history and classics will be available, while on the public speaking front, we can look forward to Debating and Speaking Games plus a TEDx Club.
Scientists are encouraged to sign up for the Kitchen Chemistry Club which will take place at home rather than in the school science labs, as well as contribute to the HIGSNFY Science Journal Club. Music will continue to run remote versions of their popular clubs from singing to music theory to orchestra, with new members welcome to both Senior and Harmony Choirs. With perhaps more time for reading during the lockdown, our English department are offering the BBC Book Club for Years 7-9. The list is completed with Culture Club, Cooking/Baking Club, Geography Quiz Club, LGBT Club, Play Reading Club and the wonderfully named ‘Here’s looking at Eu-clid club!’
As Mr Shoults mentioned in his virtual assembly last week, there are opportunities to get involved in the committee to revamp the pond area behind the science block, as we plan to renew and re-wild the area to encourage more wildlife, when the school re-opens.
Finally, ever been puzzled by the Cryptic Crossword? Now you have the chance to become an expert, by joining Mr Shoults’ Cryptic Crossword Club!
For more details and the exact timings of the clubs, please see the links to the ‘student noticeboard’ which have been sent via email.
Huge thanks to all the staff and subject reps for using their creativity and embracing the latest tech to make these clubs happen!
